Hungary suffered as usual in Euro 2024 win over Scotland, claims coach Rossi

Hungary's hard-fought victory over Scotland in the Euro 2024 match was another testament to their tradition of achieving success through immense suffering, according to Hungary coach Marco Rossi.
With a last-gasp goal in the 100th minute, Hungary secured a 1-0 win and kept their hopes alive for a spot in the last 16.
Now, Rossi's team must anxiously await their fate, as they hope to advance as one of the top four third-placed finishers. Reflecting on the match at the Stuttgart Arena, Rossi emphasized the team's history of enduring hardships to achieve their goals.
"We have never achieved anything in the past without enduring significant suffering, and today was no different," he stated. Additionally, the 59-year-old coach expressed his delight at securing his first victory in the competition.
During the game, play was halted in the 68th minute due to a severe collision between Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn and Hungary's Barnabas Varga. Varga, who was carried off on a stretcher, appeared to be unconscious and required immediate medical attention.
Distressed Hungary players surrounded him, using blankets as a makeshift screen. Rossi described the situation as confusing and expressed concern over the delay in medical assistance.
He confirmed that Varga would undergo facial surgery but assured that he was out of danger. Unfortunately, Varga will not be able to continue in the competition if Hungary progresses.
In the 79th minute, Scotland had a strong penalty appeal dismissed when substitute Stuart Armstrong fell in the box after contact from Orban. Rossi admitted that he did not have a clear view of the incident from the bench but acknowledged that similar contact had been allowed throughout the tournament.
Despite Scotland's dominance in possession and control of large portions of the first half, Rossi believed that Hungary created more opportunities and deserved the victory.
The team's resilience and determination were evident throughout the match, highlighting their ability to overcome adversity and secure crucial wins.
Rossi mentioned that Scotland had slightly more possession, particularly in the first half. He added that the second half was more evenly matched. Rossi believed that although Scotland had more possession, the match was fair as both teams had their opportunities. Overall, he felt that the outcome was justified.
