Hurley rejects Lakers offer to stay with Connecticut

Dan Hurley has turned down a job offer from the Los Angeles Lakers in favour of pursuing a third consecutive national championship with the University of Connecticut, according to multiple media outlets on Monday.

The Lakers reportedly offered a six-year, $70 million contract to lead the team and its stars, LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Hurley was "extremely impressed" with the Lakers' front office before deciding to stay with the Huskies, according to ESPN.

The Lakers fired head coach Darvin Ham after losing in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs to the reigning champion Denver Nuggets.

Prior to the surprising news of the Lakers' offer to Hurley, the team was reportedly considering former player and current ESPN analyst JJ Redick to take over the team, which won its last championship in 2020.

The Lakers are expected to resume interviewing candidates in the hopes of hiring a coach before the NBA draft later this month, according to ESPN.
