Iga Swiatek edges past Linda Noskova to set up quarter-final clash with Elena Rybakina

Iga Swiatek, experienced a setback in Doha by dropping a set for the first time since 2022, concluding a streak of 25 consecutive set victories.
Nevertheless, she managed to recover and secure her advancement with a score of 6-7(1), 6-4, 6-4 against Linda Noskova, aged 20, thereby extending her winning streak at the tournament to 14 matches.
The five-time Grand Slam champion is set to face 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina on Thursday for a chance to reach the semi-finals. Swiatek triumphed over Rybakina in straight sets during the final of the previous year.
Swiatek's dominance appeared to be at risk when Noskova, who reached the semi-finals in Abu Dhabi the previous week, excelled in the first set tie-break despite failing to convert five break points.
In the second set, Swiatek broke serve to lead 3-2. Although Noskova quickly responded, the second seed regained her lead shortly thereafter.
Noskova had a break point while Swiatek was serving for the set, but Swiatek maintained her composure to push the match to a deciding set.
In the final set, Swiatek won the first two games, but Noskova then claimed the next three to take a 3-2 lead, putting Swiatek under pressure in the eighth game.
However, after falling to 0-30 on her serve, Swiatek rallied to win six consecutive points, securing a crucial break with a forehand into the open court.
She completed her victory in the subsequent game, despite having won fewer points overall than Noskova.
Earlier in the day, Rybakina advanced with a 7-6(1), 6-2 victory over Slovakia's Rebecca Sramkova.
The fifth seed from Kazakhstan faced some inconsistency in the first set after establishing a 3-0 lead, failing to convert three set points in the tenth game before ultimately taking control in the tie-break.
Rybakina broke world number 46 Sramkova to commence the second set and won the first four games, concluding the match in 84 minutes.
Stefano Vukov, the coach of Rybakina, remains under suspension following the conclusion of an investigation, as confirmed by the WTA on Tuesday.
He had been provisionally suspended the previous month due to alleged violations of the tour's code of conduct.
On Wednesday, Jasmine Paolini became the latest seeded player to be eliminated, as the fourth-ranked Italian was decisively defeated 6-2, 6-2 by the unpredictable Jelena Ostapenko.
Ostapenko, who had not secured consecutive victories since Wimbledon until this week, is set to face Ons Jabeur, who triumphed over Sofia Kenin with a score of 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals.
On Tuesday, four of the top ten seeds were ousted, with world number one Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, Zheng Qinwen, and Paula Badosa all exiting in the second round.
However, sixth seed Jessica Pegula managed to avoid a similar fate, defeating Daria Kasatkina with a score of 6-3, 7-5.
Ekaterina Alexandrova continued her strong performance by following up her victory over Sabalenka with a straight-sets win against Elise Mertens, while Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk overcame Poland's Magda Linette with a score of 6-4, 6-2.
