Iga Swiatek withdraws from Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers to focus on training

World number two Iga Swiatek has announced her withdrawal from the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup qualifying tournament in Poland, citing the need to prioritize her personal well-being and training. The 23-year-old confirmed the decision on social media, revealing she will not compete for the national team against Switzerland and Ukraine from April 10-12 in Radom.
"I know that this is not the information that fans, especially Polish ones, wanted, nevertheless it is the right decision for me for now," Swiatek said. "Now it's time for more balance, focusing on myself and my training. I keep my fingers crossed for the girls and the whole team."
The five-time Grand Slam champion's decision comes shortly after her quarter-final exit at the Miami Open, where she was defeated by 19-year-old Alexandra Eala from the Philippines. Swiatek competed in that match under heightened security following an incident where she was verbally abused by a spectator during an earlier practice session.
With her sights set on regaining top form, Swiatek's absence will be a significant challenge for Poland as they aim for success in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers.
