IIHF World Championship roundup: Sweden continue perfect start, Czech Republic and USA lose

The IIHF World Championship did not go well for the Czech Republic and the USA, while Sweden continued to dominate Group B. In Group A Finland secured a 4-1 victory over Norway in their third game of the tournament.
After a shootout loss to the Czech Republic in their opening game, Finland bounced back with an impressive 8-0 win against Great Britain
Oliver Kapanen and Arttu Hyry played a crucial role in Finland's win over Norway, each scoring two goals. Unfortunately, Norway remains without a point after three games.
In Group B, the United States of America faced a tough defeat against Slovakia. Despite a valiant effort to come back from a three-goal deficit, the Americans ultimately lost 5-4 in overtime.
This victory secured Slovakia's second win in the tournament. The game was decided at 63:56 thanks to Milos Kelemen's second goal. Both teams had new goalies in the game, with the Slovaks using Hlavaj and the Americans replacing the injured Lyon with Nedeljkovic.
The game had its fair share of missed opportunities, with Cehlárik and Boldy failing to convert scoring chances. Slovakia took the lead in the fourth minute with Kelemen's goal, and Hudacek added a second goal during a two-on-one Power Play.
There were a few minor clashes, but the Slovaks remained a threat. Kudrna's early second-period goal put them ahead, but Boldy quickly narrowed the gap.

Even with these goals, Slovakia did not increase their offensive efforts. Hughes equalized in the 57th minute with a solo effort. In overtime, Kelemen secured the victory for Slovakia in the 64th minute.

Sweden extended their lead in Group B to nine points after a 6-1 victory over Germany. The Germans, who were runners-up in the previous tournament, suffered their second defeat and are currently in sixth place with three points. Sweden took control early on, scoring three goals in the first period. Forward André Burakovsky contributed a goal and two assists.
Captain Karlsson opened the scoring in the third minute with a precise shot. Sweden continued to dominate, with Pettersson scoring in the 15th minute. Peterka was then sent off at the end of the first period, and Sweden capitalized on the Power Play, with Olofsson scoring just before the break.
In the second period, Sweden added another goal in the 25th minute through Grundström. The Germans had their first chance, but Ersson saved Peterko's shot before Burakovsky capitalized on Grubauer's mistake to make it 5-0.
Germany was able to narrow the gap in the final period. Ersson's shutout was spoiled by Pföderl's goal. Despite this setback, Sweden remained composed and sealed the victory with Lundeström's sixth goal of the game.
