Indianapolis Colts named as Home Team for first NFL game in Berlin

The NFL announced on Wednesday that the Indianapolis Colts will serve as the designated home team for the league's inaugural game in Berlin, Germany, during the 2025 season.
The specific date and opponent for this matchup at Olympic Stadium will be revealed when the league publishes the complete schedule closer to the commencement of the upcoming season.
This event will represent the fifth NFL game held in Germany since 2022, with two games taking place in Munich (2022, 2024) and two in Frankfurt, both of which occurred in 2023. This will mark the Colts' third appearance in Europe throughout the franchise's history, following their games in London in 2016 and Frankfurt in 2023.
"The NFL is making history in Berlin, and the Colts are proud to be part of this landmark event in one of the world's most historic cities," stated Colts owner Jim Irsay.
"The NFL has evolved into a global brand, and we are eager to promote American football in Germany while expanding the reach of Colts Nation worldwide. This game also presents a unique opportunity for our local Indiana partners to connect with German businesses, customers, and fans both this season and in the future."
Olympic Stadium has a notable history with the NFL. From 1990 to 1994, several American Bowl games were hosted there, as well as games played by the original Berlin Thunder team during the mid-2000s when the NFL operated its own European league.
"Germany represents a significant market for the NFL, with a growing fan base and enthusiasm for the sport," remarked NFL Germany general manager Alexander Steinforth.
"Following four successful international games in Munich and Frankfurt, we are excited to have the Colts as the designated team for our first-ever regular season game in Berlin in 2025—a city rich in football history and a true testament to the league's international expansion and growth."
The NFL has announced the opponents for all teams for the 2025 season. The Indianapolis Colts' away opponents who may travel to Berlin alongside them are as follows: Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans, Pittsburgh Steelers, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, Los Angeles Rams, and Seattle Seahawks.
The Colts concluded the 2024 season with a record of 8-9, failing to qualify for the playoffs.
