Inter books Coppa Italia semi-final clash with AC Milan after hard-fought victory over Lazio

Inter Milan has set the stage for an exciting derby in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia against AC Milan, following a 2-0 triumph over Lazio, which extended their unbeaten streak at home to 16 matches across all competitions (W13, D3).

The match commenced with high intensity, featuring aggressive tackles from both teams. However, it became evident that the hosts were slightly more dominant in possession, while Lazio posed a significant threat on counter-attacks.

Boulaye Dia was the first to test the goal, as his deflected shot narrowly missed the target, while Gustav Isaksen also threatened from long range on multiple occasions.

Despite appearing to be in control, Lazio fell behind late in the first half due to a moment of brilliance from Marko Arnautovic. An Inter set-piece was initially well-defended, but the Austrian forward displayed remarkable skill by executing a first-time volley from 30 yards, leaving goalkeeper Christos Mandas stunned.

The halftime break provided Lazio with an opportunity to regroup, and Isaksen continued to create challenges after the restart. However, Josep Martinez was equal to the task, making a crucial save following Isaksen's impressive run into the penalty area.

Lazio persisted in their efforts to equalize and managed to create a powerful shot at the back post, but once again, it was directed straight at Martinez, who was well-positioned to make the save.

As the match approached its final 15 minutes, it appeared that Lazio was preparing for a strong offensive push. However, former Lazio player Joaquin Correa was awarded a penalty for being clumsily brought down in the box just as he was about to shoot.

Hakan Calhanoglu had to wait to take the penalty due to protests from the visitors, but he remained composed, successfully sending Mandas the wrong way to double Inter's lead.

Marco Baroni’s team did not relent and nearly found a way back into the match immediately, but their misfortune was evident when Pedro’s deflected shot struck the crossbar before going over.

Following this, Inter managed to maintain their lead and secure the victory, resulting in Lazio's elimination at the quarter-final stage for the fifth time in their last six Coppa Italia campaigns.
