Ipswich Town 0-4 Arsenal: Gunners crush hosts to delay Liverpool title party

Arsenal delivered a commanding 4-0 win over Ipswich Town on Sunday, effectively ending Liverpool’s chances of securing the Premier League title on the day. Leandro Trossard netted twice for the Gunners, while Ipswich were reduced to 10 players after Leif Davis was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Bukayo Saka.

The victory lifted Arsenal to 66 points and into second place, but Liverpool—who face relegation-threatened Leicester City later—still need only two more wins from their remaining fixtures to secure the title.

From the opening whistle, Arsenal applied relentless pressure. They opened the scoring in the 14th minute after a driving run from Martin Odegaard set up Trossard, who managed to slot the ball home despite slipping as he shot. The second goal underscored the quality gap between the sides, as Saka’s incisive run down the right led to a slick combination involving Mikel Merino, whose clever flick set up Gabriel Martinelli for a tap-in.

Ipswich’s task became even more difficult after Davis was dismissed just after the half-hour mark for a dangerous tackle on Saka. Despite being down to 10 men, Ipswich tried to respond, with George Hirst coming close in the 56th minute, but they managed only four attempts at goal—none of which were on target.

Trossard completed his brace in the 69th minute, and Ethan Nwaneri added a fourth late on to seal the emphatic win. Ipswich remain 18th in the table on 21 points and are on the brink of relegation—they will go down if they drop any more points or if West Ham United, currently 17th, earn a single point from their five remaining matches.

Despite Liverpool maintaining the upper hand in the title race, Trossard remains optimistic. “We don't need to look at them (Liverpool) we just have to keep going like this and take it game by game. We want to win every game but we know how tough it is in the league. A good win today and we just need to keep pushing going forward,” he said.

“We are there for a reason, we have been doing very well in the Champions League. We have to keep believing.”
