Iraola praises Bournemouth's defense after a hard-fought victory against Spurs

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, at the age of 42, expressed satisfaction in disrupting the evening for yet another prominent Premier League team, as his squad achieved a 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday.

However, he maintained a realistic outlook regarding his expectations for the season.

Dean Court has proven to be a challenging venue for top-tier clubs this season, with Bournemouth previously overcoming Arsenal 2-0 in October and securing a 2-1 win against Manchester City last month. Currently, Iraola's team, which concluded the previous season in 12th place, occupies the ninth position in the standings with a total of 21 points.

"Fortunately, we completed the task, although there were instances when we felt that if we did not capitalize on our chances, they could retaliate," Iraola remarked to Amazon Prime following the victory over Spurs.

"Our defensive display was particularly commendable. We limited their opportunities significantly. Everyone performed admirably in defense."

Defender Dean Huijsen made history by becoming Bournemouth's youngest goalscorer in the Premier League, as his header from Marcus Tavernier's corner found the back of the net in the 17th minute.

"He was exceptionally strong defensively and scored the goal. His height is certainly an asset during set pieces, and he displays confidence on the ball," Iraola noted regarding the 1.96m (6 ft 5 in) Spanish teenager who joined the club in July.

Despite winning their last two matches, Iraola emphasized that Bournemouth still has not definitively demonstrated improvement compared to the previous season.

"If we conclude the season with more than 48 points, then we will have progressed compared to last year; otherwise, we may not," he stated.

Bournemouth is set to face 18th-placed Ipswich Town on Sunday.
