Italy to face hosts China in Billie Jean King Cup Finals

Defending champions Italy are set to clash with host nation China in what promises to be a thrilling opening encounter at the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup Finals this September in Shenzhen, China.
The draw, officially announced by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) on Monday, sets the stage for four compelling quarter-final matchups in this prestigious women's team tennis event:
- 🇮🇹 Italy vs. China 🇨🇳
- 🇺🇸 United States vs. Kazakhstan 🇰🇿
- 🇪🇸 Spain vs. Ukraine 🇺🇦
- 🇬🇧 Great Britain vs. Japan 🇯🇵
Originally scheduled for November, the 2024 BJK Cup Finals will now take place from September 16 to 21. Shenzhen, which will host the event through 2027, is gearing up for a tennis spectacle as part of a broader Asian WTA circuit also scheduled in Seoul, Tokyo, Beijing, Wuhan, and other cities this fall.
The rescheduling aims to help players better manage their calendars during a packed tennis season.
Last year, Italy secured their fifth Billie Jean King Cup title by defeating Slovakia 2-0 in the final. Now, they'll face a formidable test from a Chinese team playing at home, backed by passionate local fans.
Meanwhile, Team USA, the tournament’s most successful nation with 18 titles, will look to reclaim the crown against an emerging Kazakhstan squad.
Conchita Martinez returns as Tournament Director
Former world number two and Grand Slam champion Conchita Martinez has been confirmed to return as tournament director for the third consecutive year.
“Last year’s finals were a powerful reminder of just how much this competition means—not only to the players but to fans around the world,” Martinez said.
“Returning as tournament director is an opportunity to continue shaping an event that celebrates the very best of team tennis.”
The Billie Jean King Cup—widely regarded as the premier international team competition in women’s tennis—continues to grow in prestige and popularity. With elite players, national pride, and championship glory on the line, the 2024 edition promises unmatched drama and high-stakes action.
