Jannik Sinner beats Djokovic, sets up French Open final vs. Alcaraz

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner is set to face defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in a highly anticipated French Open final after a monumental victory over Novak Djokovic on Friday.

In a gripping semifinal clash at Roland Garros, Sinner edged out 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, 7-6(2), to reach his first-ever French Open final. The 22-year-old Italian displayed poise under pressure, saving three set points in the third set before dominating the tiebreak to seal the win in 3 hours and 16 minutes.

The defeat denies Djokovic, 38, a chance at claiming a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title. He remains tied with Margaret Court for the most major singles titles in tennis history.

Sinner, who had previously fallen short in the semifinals at Roland Garros, including a loss to Alcaraz last year, will now look to settle the score in Sunday’s final. Alcaraz currently holds a 7-4 head-to-head advantage over the Italian and recently defeated him in the Italian Open final just 19 days ago.

Alcaraz cruises to Final after Musetti injury

Carlos Alcaraz booked his place in the final after opponent Lorenzo Musetti retired early in the fourth set of their semifinal. The Spaniard was leading 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-0, 2-0 when Musetti was forced to withdraw due to a left thigh injury.

It’s never easy to win like this,” Alcaraz said in his post-match interview. “Lorenzo is a great player and friend. I hope he recovers quickly.”

Musetti showed early brilliance, taking the first set and pushing Alcaraz in the second, but injury woes crept in during the third set. After being shut out 6-0, Musetti sought treatment twice and appeared visibly hampered before deciding to end the match. The eighth-seeded Italian was chasing history as only the second Italian man to ever reach the French Open final after Adriano Panatta’s 1976 title.

Alcaraz, the 21-year-old second seed, now heads into his third Grand Slam final with momentum, confidence, and a 21-1 clay court record this season. His recent victories in Rome and Monte Carlo further cement his clay dominance.
