Jannik Sinner beats Medvedev to win Indian Wells title

Jannik Sinner produced a dominant display to win the Indian Wells Open title after defeating Daniil Medvedev.

The world No.2 secured a 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-4) victory in a high-quality final played in intense desert heat, claiming his first title of the season and the 25th trophy of his career.

Sinner’s triumph also placed him in rare company alongside Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

Matches Federer and Djokovic Feat

With the victory, Sinner became the youngest player to complete the full set of major hard-court titles.

The Italian has now won:

  • The Australian Open (2024, 2025)
  • The US Open (2024)
  • All six hard-court ATP Masters 1000 events
  • The season-ending ATP Finals

Only Federer and Djokovic had previously achieved that complete collection of hard-court titles.

Serving Masterclass from Sinner

The final showcased Sinner’s incredible serving performance. The 24-year-old did not face a single break point throughout the match and lost just four points on his first serve. His statistics highlighted the dominance:

  • 43 of 47 points won on first serve
  • 10 aces
  • 60% of second-serve points won

The Italian also moved through the tournament without dropping a set, underlining his control throughout the event.

Medvedev pushes the Champion

Despite the defeat, Medvedev produced a strong performance in the final. The former US Open champion saved the only two break points of the match and threatened to force a third set during the second-set tiebreak.

Medvedev even led 4-0 in the deciding tiebreak, but Sinner produced an extraordinary comeback, winning seven consecutive points to close out the title.

The Russian will still receive a rankings boost, returning to the ATP top 10 when the rankings update.

Road to the Final

Medvedev’s journey to the final was particularly challenging. The Russian nearly missed the tournament after being stranded in Dubai due to travel disruptions linked to the conflict in the Middle East.

However, he still managed to reach the championship match, including an impressive semi-final victory over world No.1 Carlos Alcaraz. Ultimately, Sinner proved too consistent in the decisive moments.

Djokovic withdraws from Miami Open

Elsewhere on the ATP Tour, Djokovic confirmed he will miss the upcoming Miami Open due to a right shoulder injury. The Serbian legend, a 24-time Grand Slam champion and six-time Miami winner, finished runner-up at the tournament last year. His withdrawal opens the field at the hard-court event, which begins this week in Florida.
