Jannik Sinner plays down wrist injury ahead of maiden US Open final

Jannik Sinner, the 23-year-old US Open finalist, remains optimistic that the wrist injury he incurred during a fall in Friday's semi-final against Jack Draper, 22, will not hinder his performance in the final match.

As the top seed and the first Italian man to reach a singles final at the US Open, Sinner received on-court medical assistance during his challenging straight-set victory, while Draper struggled with the heat, experiencing nausea on three occasions.

"The physiotherapist was able to alleviate the issue quite quickly on the court, so I felt fine initially. As I continued to play, the discomfort subsided, which is encouraging," Sinner informed the media.

"We will see how it feels tomorrow in cooler conditions. It will certainly feel different. I hope it is nothing serious."

Sinner acknowledged that Draper, who made his Grand Slam semi-final debut, would be a formidable opponent.

"Competing against Jack is always challenging. He served exceptionally well... I am pleased to have secured this victory," Sinner remarked. "I believe he has the potential to win significant titles in the future."

The Australian Open champion, who is set to face American 12th seed Taylor Fritz in the final on Sunday, anticipates a tough contest against a local favorite aiming to break the United States' 21-year men's Grand Slam title drought.

"He possesses a powerful serve and is a very consistent player from the baseline. He can strike the ball with strength and spin, and he effectively varies his game," Sinner noted.

"Given that we are in New York competing against an American, it is likely that the crowd will be more supportive of him. However, I accept this, as it is similar to my experiences when playing in Italy."
