Jannik Sinner to Face Daniil Medvedev in Shanghai Masters Quarter-Finals

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, aged 23, will square off against Daniil Medvedev, ranked 5th, in the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters following their straight-set victories on Wednesday.
Sinner powered past American Ben Shelton with a 6-4, 7-6(1) victory, avenging his previous defeat to Shelton at this stage last year. Meanwhile, Medvedev overcame Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece 7-6(3), 6-3 to advance.
Sinner's win took 88 minutes, as the Italian star broke Shelton’s serve in the first set’s ninth game before dominating the tiebreak in the second. "It was very tough; you don't have so much control when you play against him... I just tried to stay strong mentally," Sinner said after his match.
Medvedev, 28, secured his place in the quarter-finals with a decisive win over Tsitsipas. Although the Greek broke early in the second set, Medvedev rallied back, breaking Tsitsipas twice to seal his victory.

This year, Sinner and Medvedev have developed a heated rivalry, with Sinner defeating Medvedev in the semi-finals in Miami, the quarter-finals of the US Open, and the final of the Australian Open. However, Medvedev edged out Sinner in a five-set thriller at Wimbledon in the quarter-finals.
The Shanghai Masters continues with world number two Carlos Alcaraz, who recently beat Sinner in the China Open final, along with four-time Shanghai champion Novak Djokovic and world number three Alexander Zverev also in action.
