Jared Goff throws for 5 TDs as Lions cruise past Broncos 42-17

On Saturday night, Jared Goff threw for 278 yards and a career-high tying five touchdowns, three to Sam LaPorta, as the host Detroit Lions defeated the Denver Broncos 42-17.

Jahmyr Gibbs rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries and also had a receiving touchdown. Amon-Ra St. Brown had seven receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown as the Lions (10-4) moved closer to a playoff berth and division title.

For the Broncos (7-7), Russell Wilson passed for 223 yards and a touchdown and ran for another.

Goff passed for 215 yards and three touchdowns as the Lions raced to a 21-0 halftime lead.

In the first quarter, Detroit was unable to capitalize on Isaiah Buggs' 33-yard return of a Wilson fumble.

In the second quarter, the Lions offense found its stride. They took the lead after driving 80 yards in eight plays.

Goff connected with LaPorta for 17 yards and Josh Reynolds for 21 yards. Goff then completed a short pass to LaPorta, who made a 19-yard cut to the left and scored.

The Lions scored again after the Broncos went three-and-out. This 61-yard drive required six plays to complete, beginning with Goff's 20-yard pass to Reynolds. Goff capped it off with a 9-yard pass over the middle to Gibbs.

The Lions completed their strong second quarter with an 81-yard scoring drive. Goff found St. Brown for a 29-yard gain. They also connected for a 15-yard touchdown, with St. Brown leaping into the end zone.

Denver scored on its first second-half possession thanks to a 44-yard pass interference penalty. Wilson found Lil'Jordan Humphrey for a 3-yard touchdown pass.

The Lions came back with a 75-yard drive. Goff's 3-yard touchdown pass to LaPorta was set up by Gibbs' 34-yard run.

In the final minute of the quarter, Will Lutz's 23-yard field goal made it 28-10.

Gibbs scored his second touchdown of the game on a 12-yard run with 12:12 remaining. Wilson scored from a yard out with 6:28 left.

With 2:21 remaining, Goff completed the scoring with a 10-yard pass to LaPorta.
