Jon Rahm eyes DP World Tour events despite LIV-related sanctions

Jon Rahm of Spain, aged 29, has expressed his intention to participate in three European golf tournaments before the year's conclusion to secure his eligibility for the Ryder Cup.
However, he stated on Wednesday that he will not pay the fines imposed by the DP World Tour due to his involvement with LIV Golf.
The two-time major champion, who joined LIV Golf in December of the previous year, is currently facing a deadline to settle the fines levied against golfers who did not obtain the necessary releases to compete in events organized by the Saudi-backed league that coincide with DP World Tour events.
As he readies himself for the LIV Golf tournament in Chicago this week, Rahm indicated his desire to compete in two events in Spain—the Spanish Open and the Andalucia Masters—as well as the Dunhill Links Championship. Nevertheless, he expressed uncertainty regarding his ability to participate.
"We entered a long time ago,” Rahm remarked. “Whether they allow me to play is another matter. I am not particularly fond of the fines, and I believe I have made my stance clear on that."
"I do not plan to pay the fines, and we are continuing discussions with them to explore how we can resolve this," he continued.
"I have reiterated that my participation in the Spanish Open is not for personal glory but rather a responsibility to Spanish golf, and I also wish to compete in Sotogrande."
There appears to be a potential pathway for Rahm to compete if he chooses to appeal the sanctions. Tyrrell Hatton from LIV Golf participated in the British Masters after appealing his penalties, with the resolution of those fines pending.
One individual likely monitoring the developments closely is Luke Donald, who will serve as the captain for Europe in the upcoming Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York.
Rahm was a standout performer for Europe in their recent victory over the United States in Rome during the last edition of the biennial match play event.
