Jose Mourinho appears to grab Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk after Turkish Cup loss

Jose Mourinho once again found himself at the center of controversy after Fenerbahce’s 2-1 loss to Galatasaray in the Turkish Cup quarterfinals. The fiery Portuguese tactician appeared to grab the nose of Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk in a heated post-match altercation, sending his rival theatrically to the ground.
Mourinho vs. Buruk: A Season-Long Feud
The rivalry between Mourinho and Buruk has been brewing all season. Buruk previously labeled Mourinho as "The Crying One" due to the Fenerbahce coach’s repeated complaints about refereeing in Turkish football. The tensions reached their peak after Wednesday night’s clash, where three red cards were issued following an on-field brawl.
In widely circulated footage on social media, Mourinho appears to extend his hand toward Buruk’s face, making contact with his nose. The Galatasaray manager then falls to the ground, clutching his face, while Mourinho is swiftly escorted away by officials.

Galatasaray’s Response and Social Media Taunt
Galatasaray wasted no time in reacting, posting a cheeky image on their official X (formerly Twitter) account showing Buruk smiling at Mourinho. The post was captioned, “YOU SHOULD NOT ATTACK, YOU SHOULD DIGEST! 🤫”, a clear dig at Mourinho’s emotional response to the loss.
Turkish Cup Drama and Mourinho’s Season in Turkiye
The highly anticipated clash between Fenerbahce and Galatasaray saw Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen net twice for the visitors, securing their place in the semi-finals. However, the game descended into chaos in the final minutes, with Fenerbahce’s Mert Hakan Yandas receiving a red card, while Galatasaray’s Kerem Demirbay and Baris Alper Yilmaz were also dismissed after the post-match altercation.
Mourinho, who took charge of Fenerbahce last summer, has faced a turbulent season in Turkiye. Apart from ongoing referee complaints, he has also been accused of making controversial remarks about Galatasaray’s bench earlier in the campaign, which the club described as "unequivocally inhumane rhetoric." Fenerbahce strongly denied the accusations, even filing a lawsuit against their Istanbul rivals for what they called an "attack on Mourinho’s personal rights."
What’s Next for Mourinho and Fenerbahce?
With Galatasaray now six points clear at the top of the Turkish Super Lig, Fenerbahce’s title hopes are fading. The focus now shifts to how Mourinho and his team respond to this latest setback, as the manager continues to command headlines both on and off the pitch.
