Former Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, has landed a new managerial role 12 months after parting ways with Nigeria, as Egyptian powerhouse Zamalek officially appoints him as their new head coach.
Peseiro’s Tenure with Nigeria: A Mixed Bag
Peseiro took charge of the Nigerian national team in 2022, but his reign was anything but smooth. After a rocky startthat saw him lose his first two matches, the Portuguese tactician steadied the ship with a couple of wins. His biggest achievement came in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where he led the Super Eagles to a runner-up finish.
Despite guiding Nigeria to the AFCON final, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) opted for a short-term contract extension instead of a long-term deal before the tournament. When the contract expired after AFCON, Peseiro declined to renew, leaving his position vacant.
