Julian Nagelsmann wanted Danish striking sensation to represent Germany

Today, Julian Nagelsmann revealed the German team for the Nations League quarter-final match against Italy, noting that he had reached out to 22-year-old striker Mika Biereth of AS Monaco to gauge his interest in representing Germany.

Biereth has made a significant impact in the French Ligue 1, scoring ten goals in just eight matches, thereby surpassing Zlatan Ibrahimovic's former goalscoring record.

Born in London in 2003 to a Danish-German father and a Bosnian mother, Biereth holds eligibility to represent Denmark, Bosnia, Germany, and England.

During Thursday's press conference, Nagelsmann was inquired about Mika Biereth and the potential of incorporating him into the German national team.

"I spoke to him to see if he could play for us. He has a Danish and a British passport, and was 21 years old the last time he represented Denmark (on the U21 national team, ed.)."

"Therefore it was not legal for him to line up for Germany", said Nagelsmann.

Biereth was instead included in the Danish squad for the upcoming fixtures against Portugal.
