Jurgen Klopp Appointed Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull

Jurgen Klopp, the highly regarded German coach, has been named the Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull, marking his first major role since leaving Liverpool earlier this year. The 57-year-old will take on his new responsibilities on January 1, 2025, overseeing the football operations for Red Bull's international portfolio of clubs, which includes RB Leipzig, FC Salzburg, and teams in New York, Brazil, and Japan.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, although Red Bull initially declined to comment on the news. According to reports, Klopp’s contract includes an exit clause allowing him to step down if offered the head coach position for the German national team.
"After nearly 25 years on the sidelines, I am thrilled to engage in a project of this nature," Klopp said in a press release. "While my role is changing, my passion for football and for the people who contribute to the sport remains as strong as ever."
Klopp left Liverpool in May after nearly nine successful years, during which he transformed the club, winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and several other trophies. Before his time at Liverpool, Klopp managed Borussia Dortmund and Mainz 05. Following his departure, he expressed a desire to take a break from day-to-day football management.
In his new role, Klopp will not be involved in daily operations but will provide strategic oversight and guidance across Red Bull's football network. According to Red Bull, he will "assist individual sporting directors in promoting the Red Bull philosophy" while also helping with global scouting efforts and the training and development of coaches.
"I see my role primarily as a mentor for the coaches and management of Red Bull clubs," Klopp added. "This is a unique and innovative organization, and I’m excited by the opportunity."
Oliver Mintzlaff, who has extensive experience managing RB Leipzig and now oversees Red Bull’s sports projects, is believed to be a key figure behind the initiative to bring Klopp on board.
