Juventus 2-0 Torino: Weah and Yildiz on target as Old Lady continue Turin Derby dominance

Juventus won 2-0 at home against Torino on Saturday, extending their unbeaten streak in the Turin Derby and moving them up to third in the Serie A standings thanks to goals from Timothy Weah and Kenan Yildiz.

Juve have 24 points, tied with second-place Inter Milan and one point behind leaders Napoli. Inter will host Napoli on Sunday. Torino are 11th in the rankings with 14 points.

Torino arrived at the Juventus Stadium with a dreadful record against their city rivals, having failed to win in their previous 18 meetings, and their present form showed little prospect of that improving, with five defeats in their last six games.

Weah was the first to react when Torino goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic spilled a shot in the 18th minute, and a Yildiz header six minutes from time sealed the win, leaving Juve as the only undefeated team in Serie A.

Juventus showed plenty of attacking promise in the first half, but aside from the goal and a Dusan Vlahovic attempt that was easily saved by the keeper, Thiago Motta's side struggled to turn possession into serious chances.

Juve took the lead when Andrea Cambiaso ran into the area and fired a shot that Milinkovic-Savic should have saved, and Weah couldn't believe his luck as he rolled the ball into the net and began celebrating.

Both sets of fans made a lot of noise to fit the occasion, but the players mostly failed to respond on the pitch. Torino did manage to spend more time in the opposing half after the break, but they never looked like equalising.

Juventus forward Francisco Conceicao threatened to light up the game with a curling shot from distance that went just past of the post, but minutes later, his cross provided the safety cushion of a second goal.

Conceicao sprinted down the right side of the area and floated a cross to the back post, where Yildiz's diving header found the net.

In honour of his hero and former Juventus player Alessandro Del Piero, who celebrated his 50th birthday on Saturday, Yildiz sprinted away with his tongue out, the brightest moment in a mostly gloomy rivalry.
