Juventus 3-1 PSV: Old Lady make fast start to new Champions League format after easing to win against visitors

Juventus made a triumphant return to European competition, with Kenan Yildiz playing a pivotal role in their 3-1 victory over PSV in the League Phase of the UEFA Champions League at the Allianz Stadium.

PSV entered the match with the assurance of a team that had secured victories in all five of their initial Eredivisie matches, but they were quickly overwhelmed by a remarkable six-minute display of prowess from the home team.

Yildiz, continuing to follow in the footsteps of the club's legends, showcased his talent by driving into the penalty area, executing a deft shoulder drop, and curling a precise shot into the top corner, thus becoming the youngest UCL scorer in the club's history, surpassing Alessandro Del Piero.

By the time Yildiz had made his mark, Weston McKennie and Teun Koopmeiners had already squandered promising chances, but the former soon extended the lead just six minutes later.

Joey Veerman appeared to have neutralized the threat when he tackled Dusan Vlahovic in the PSV penalty area, yet his intervention inadvertently redirected the ball to McKennie, who confidently converted the straightforward opportunity past goalkeeper Joel Drommel.

If PSV had anticipated that Juventus would slow down in the second half, their hopes were swiftly dashed just seven minutes after the restart.

Veerman was dispossessed by Koopmeiners in a precarious position, allowing Vlahovic to seize the opportunity and pass to an unmarked Nicolas Gonzalez. With the PSV defense seemingly absent, the Argentine forward easily found the net, marking his debut goal in the UEFA Champions League.

The evening proved to be disheartening for PSV, who managed to secure a late consolation goal through a skillful finish by Ismael Saibari. However, Peter Bosz is aware that their prospects in the Champions League will probably hinge on their performances in upcoming home matches against more evenly matched teams.

In contrast, Thiago Motta celebrated a remarkable victory in his inaugural Champions League encounter, and he will be eager for his team to replicate this success in two weeks when they face RB Leipzig away.
