Juventus and Milan face off in fight for second place

Juventus and AC Milan have long been engaged in a fierce rivalry within Italian football. However, the upcoming Serie A clash between these two teams holds a unique significance as it determines the runners-up position. Interestingly, both managers find themselves uncertain about what lies ahead for their respective futures.

Milan suffered a defeat in the derby on Monday, allowing Inter Milan to secure the league title with five games remaining. Currently 17 points behind Inter, Milan now only have the fight to maintain second place to focus on.

Juventus, in third place and five points behind Milan, have the Coppa Italia final to anticipate. However, it has been a disappointing season for both clubs. Coaches Stefano Pioli and Massimiliano Allegri may face consequences for the underwhelming performances.

Pioli guided Milan to their first Scudetto in over a decade two seasons ago, but his position is now uncertain after another season without silverware. Milan's recent losses to Inter and Juventus have intensified the pressure on the coach.

The Champions League group stage exit and Europa League elimination against Roma have led to increased dissatisfaction among fans regarding Pioli's management.

The defeat to Inter also resulted in key defenders Davide Calabria, Theo Hernandez, and Fikayo Tomori being suspended for the upcoming match against Juventus.

A victory or even a draw against Juventus could potentially secure second place for Pioli. However, retaining his job might prove to be a more challenging task.

Allegri's return to Juventus has not been as successful as his first spell, with the team failing to win any trophies in the past three seasons. Even a Coppa Italia triumph may not guarantee his future at the club.

A win against Milan could bring Juventus within two points of second place, but a loss might see them drop to fourth, with Bologna closely trailing by two points.

Bologna is on track to secure a spot in the Champions League for the first time after defeating Roma 3-1. They will face Udinese this Sunday. Meanwhile, Roma, currently in fifth place, will play against defending champions Napoli, who are struggling to qualify for Europe next season after a recent loss to Empoli.

Inter, already crowned champions, have the opportunity to surpass their record points total in Serie A. In 2007, they won the Scudetto with 97 points, and with five games left, they currently have 86 points. They will host Torino on Sunday.
