Kagiso Rabada shines as South Africa secure victory in 1st Test against Bangladesh

Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada claimed six wickets in the second innings, leading South Africa to a seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the first Test on Thursday. The match concluded before lunch on the fourth day at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
South Africa successfully chased down the target, scoring 106 runs for the loss of three wickets in their second innings. Opener Tony de Zorzi contributed 41 runs, while Tristan Stubbs remained not out on 30, guiding the team to victory.
Rabada made a significant impact on the fourth day, taking two early wickets to finish with impressive figures of 6 for 46. This performance marked a milestone for him, as he celebrated surpassing 300 Test wickets, while Bangladesh was bowled out for 307 in their second innings.
The home team had managed to establish an 81-run lead by the end of the third day, reaching 283 for 7. However, with only three wickets remaining, they faced a challenging situation when they resumed play against the new ball on Thursday.
South Africa's fast bowlers swiftly dismantled the tail end of the batting order, preventing middle-order batsman Mehidy Hasan Miraz from achieving a Test century. He was dismissed for 97, caught by Wiaan Mulder at third slip off Rabada's bowling.
This left South Africa with a manageable target, which they achieved comfortably within 22 overs.
Taijul Islam from Bangladesh took 3 wickets for 43 runs, adding to his five wickets from the first innings.
“It was a really good performance," remarked the victorious captain Aiden Markram. "We executed four days of solid cricket, and the bowlers set the tone beautifully from the first day."
Bangladesh, having won the toss and opted to bat, struggled on the opening day, collapsing for just 106 runs, which allowed South Africa to establish a substantial 202-run lead in the first innings.
“We had a great lead, although credit goes to Bangladesh for making it challenging for us in the second innings,” Markram noted.
The two teams are set to face each other again in the second Test in Chittagong, commencing on Tuesday.
