Olympic bobsledder Kaillie Humphries presents Trump with Order of Ikkos medal

Kaillie Humphries surprised President Trump on Thursday by presenting him with the Order of Ikkos medal during a Women’s History Month event hosted at the White House alongside Melania Trump.
The honour is traditionally given by U.S. Olympic medalists to individuals who played an important role in their journey to the podium. Humphries used the moment to publicly recognise the influence she believes Trump’s policies have had on her personal and professional life.
What the Order of Ikkos represents
The Order of Ikkos is awarded through the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee to American Olympic medalists. Named after Ikkos, believed to be the first recorded coach in Ancient Greece, the medal allows athletes to honour a mentor, coach, or supporter who helped them reach Olympic success.
Recipients often include coaches, family members, or trainers who played key roles behind the scenes.
Humphries said Olympic medals are rarely achieved alone. “Every Olympic medalist gets an Order of Ikkos to hand to someone who made a meaningful contribution to their journey to the podium,” she explained during the ceremony.
Humphries recognises policy impact
Humphries, a decorated Olympic athlete, told the audience she chose to present the medal to Trump in recognition of policies she said supported women’s sports and families.
She cited initiatives aimed at protecting women’s competition categories in sport and policies related to family planning support. Humphries also referenced her personal journey to motherhood, explaining she welcomed her child in 2024 after a lengthy IVF process.
According to the athlete, the experience strengthened her appreciation for policies she believes help families expand through fertility treatments. Trump responded warmly to the gesture, joking to the audience that he already admired the Olympic champion.
Celebrating Women’s Contributions
The presentation occurred during a White House event highlighting the achievements and experiences of American women. Several women from across different sectors were invited to speak about how policies had influenced their lives and careers.
Among them was Heather Kell, a single mother working as a waitress in North Carolina, who said recent tax savings had positively affected her household finances.
Nora Pruitt, a mother of seven from Maryland, credited renewed manufacturing opportunities for helping her secure stable employment at a steel factory. Virginia farmer Lexi Chambers also spoke about support for domestic agriculture and its role in sustaining family farming operations.
First Lady highlights Role of Women
During the event, Melania Trump addressed the audience, emphasising the importance of women’s influence in shaping society and future generations. She encouraged women to pursue leadership roles and take risks while highlighting their contributions to communities, business, and national development.
“The strength of America is closely tied to the role women play in shaping the next generation,” she said during her remarks.
Trump highlights women in Workforce
In his closing remarks, Trump highlighted employment figures related to women in the U.S. workforce, stating that hundreds of thousands of jobs had been filled by women and that the number of women-owned businesses had increased significantly.
He described women as central to economic growth and national development.
Olympic Recognition sparks interest
While the Order of Ikkos is commonly awarded to coaches or mentors, Humphries’ decision to present it to a political figure drew attention due to its rarity.
Humphries, who recently competed at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, said the moment reflected her personal appreciation for individuals she believes helped shape her path as both an athlete and a mother.
