Kane scores twice on his 100th appearance as England east past Finland

Harry Kane (31) celebrated his 100th appearance for England by scoring two goals, leading the Three Lions to a 2-0 victory over Finland. This win marked their second consecutive triumph in UEFA Nations League Group B2, maintaining their unbeaten record against the Eagle-Owls (W10, D2).

Given that Finland is ranked 59 places lower than England in the FIFA standings, it was anticipated that they would adopt a defensive strategy from the outset, relinquishing possession in an effort to frustrate the Three Lions.

Kane aimed to build on his impressive tally of eight goals in his last seven home internationals, testing the Finnish goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky with England's only shot on target in the first half.

Bukayo Saka also posed a threat on the right side, forcing Hradecky into action with a deflected cross before setting up a slightly offside Kane, whose diving header was ruled out by VAR.

The first half concluded with England struggling to find the net, as Trent Alexander-Arnold's two attempts failed to hit the target, leaving the teams level at the break.

The second half resumed with a similar pattern, as Finland continued to retreat deeper in their defensive efforts to thwart the home side.

Hradecky remained vigilant as England intensified their attack, thwarting attempts from Kane and Anthony Gordon, but the Finnish defense eventually succumbed.

After nearly an hour of play, the Three Lions finally broke the deadlock with Kane's goal, showcasing his skill with a powerful strike that left Hradecky with no chance.

Entering this match, England had not secured a victory at Wembley in their last three outings, but with a one-goal lead, they played with renewed confidence, particularly as debutant Noni Madueke made a significant contribution from the bench.

Finland had struggled to create opportunities, and with 76 minutes gone, any chance of a comeback faded as Kane netted his 68th international goal, converting Madueke's assist.

The Bayern Munich star exited the pitch shortly thereafter, as Lee Carsley introduced new players to secure a decisive win.

After achieving a 2-0 triumph against the Republic of Ireland on Saturday, England's flawless beginning to the Nations League has positioned them at the summit of Group B2, with Carsley aiming for a swift return to the elite level of European football.

In contrast, Finland suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Greece, which was further exacerbated by this loss, placing Markku Kanerva's team in a vulnerable situation at the bottom of the group, trailing Ireland on goal difference.
