Kansas City Chiefs beat Bucs in overtime to stay perfect

Kansas City running back Kareem Hunt powered into the end zone for a two-yard touchdown in overtime on Monday, securing a 30-24 victory over Tampa Bay and maintaining the Chiefs' flawless NFL record at 8-0.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes overcame a late injury concern, passing for 291 yards and three touchdowns without any interceptions.
After rolling his ankle in the previous week's game against the Raiders, Mahomes appeared to be in discomfort after evading pressure in the pocket to deliver a seven-yard touchdown pass to Samaje Perine, which tied the game at 17-17 early in the fourth quarter.
He required assistance to reach the sideline, but following treatment in the medical tent, he returned to connect with DeAndre Hopkins on a five-yard touchdown pass, giving the reigning Super Bowl champions a 24-17 lead with 4:17 left in the game.
Tampa Bay responded with quarterback Baker Mayfield leading a 10-play, 71-yard drive that culminated in a one-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Miller.
The Buccaneers chose not to attempt a two-point conversion, opting for an extra point that leveled the score at 24-24.
Although Kansas City's final drive in regulation did not yield points, they received the ball first in overtime, and Mahomes orchestrated a methodical 10-play drive that concluded with the game-winning touchdown.
Hunt, supported by blockers Wanya Morris and Creed Humphrey, rushed for 106 yards, with Mahomes attributing his success to the ability to wear down the Tampa Bay defense.
"We were executing well early in the game, but we struggled to finish drives," Mahomes remarked. "Then Kareem took it upon himself... he kept running hard, and we were able to capitalize."
Travis Kelce contributed two receptions during the decisive drive, finishing the game with 14 catches for 100 yards.
Hopkins, playing in his second game since being traded from Tennessee to Kansas City, recorded eight receptions for 86 yards and two touchdowns, including a one-yard score that put the Chiefs ahead 10-7 in the second quarter.
Mayfield completed 23 of 31 passes, accumulating 200 yards and two touchdowns, while Rachaad White, a native of Kansas City, added another touchdown on the ground for the Buccaneers.
This match marked the latest chapter in the rivalry between Mahomes and Mayfield, which dates back to their collegiate careers.
In a memorable college football encounter in 2016, Mayfield's University of Oklahoma triumphed over Mahomes and Texas Tech in a thrilling game that ended with a score of 66-59.
This season, their paths have diverged significantly; while the Chiefs maintain a remarkable 14-game winning streak in pursuit of a third consecutive Super Bowl title, the Buccaneers have stumbled to a 4-5 record, suffering four losses in their last five outings.
Following the game, Mahomes minimized concerns regarding his ankle injury, expressing confidence in his readiness for the upcoming match against Denver on Sunday.
"You always fear the worst," he remarked. "However, as time passed, it began to feel better. We have a short week ahead, but I will focus on rehabilitation and be prepared for next week."
