Kasatkina defeats Fernandez to win Eastbourne title

Daria Kasatkina, aged 27, clinched her maiden grass-court championship by outplaying Leylah Fernandez, aged 21, with a score of 6-3, 6-4 to emerge victorious at the Eastbourne International on Saturday, a year after falling short in the final of the WTA Tour event.
The triumph marked a significant improvement for the sixth-seeded Russian on the south coast of England, having been defeated in the 2023 final at Devonshire Park by Madison Keys, who was eliminated by Fernandez in the semi-finals of this year's Wimbledon warm-up tournament.
By overcoming former US Open finalist Fernandez, the 14th-ranked player in the world, Kasatkina secured her seventh career title and her first since 2022, following three previous losses in finals earlier this season.
Reflecting on her victory, Kasatkina stated, "It's been a year, but it feels like it's been a few days since last year when I was standing here." She had defeated Britain's Emma Raducanu, who had previously defeated Fernandez in the 2021 US Open final, en route to Saturday's title match at Eastbourne.
