Knicks complete 21-point comeback to defeat Heat 100-98

In a thrilling matchup on Friday night, Jalen Brunson showcased his skills by scoring an impressive 24 points, complemented by Immanuel Quickley's impactful 20-point performance off the bench. The New York Knicks, despite facing a daunting 21-point deficit, orchestrated a remarkable comeback against the Miami Heat, securing a 100-98 victory and staying competitive in the NBA’s In-Season Tournament.
RJ Barrett contributed 18 points to the Knicks' resurgence, as they initially fell behind due to a challenging 19-0 run by the Heat at the beginning of the second half. However, the Knicks displayed resilience by outscoring the Heat 29-11 in a dramatic fourth quarter.
Reflecting on the victory, Brunson expressed, "It’s special. It’s pretty cool, I am not going to lie." Meanwhile, Jimmy Butler led the Heat with 23 points, and Bam Adebayo contributed 21 points and 12 rebounds. Unfortunately for the Heat, their offense faltered in the final period, shooting 3 for 18 from the field, and missing their last six attempts.
Despite Butler's attempt at a potential game-winning 3-pointer falling short at the buzzer, he remained optimistic, stating, "We’re going to live with the result, but I guarantee I am making the next one."
The Knicks, now tied with the Heat at 2-1 in the Eastern Conference’s Group B, are set to face the Milwaukee Bucks in the final group game. This matchup, being part of the In-Season Tournament, adds another layer to the intense rivalry between the two teams, reminiscent of their playoff battles from the previous season.
Brunson, having experienced the competitive history in 11 contests, acknowledged the unique dynamic, stating, "It’s definitely different, but still there." Despite the rivalry, he expressed admiration for Heat coach Eric Spoelstra, acknowledging him as a "great coach, great dude."
The Heat, after a challenging loss, are scheduled to face the Brooklyn Nets to conclude their five-game road trip, while the Knicks continue their four-game homestand by hosting the Phoenix Suns on Sunday night.
