Knicks cruise past Hornets at Madison Square Garden

Julius Randle showcased his all-around skills, contributing 23 points, five rebounds, and five assists, leading the New York Knicks to a resounding 129-107 victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday.
The Knicks' offensive prowess was on full display, with R.J. Barrett putting up 24 points, Jalen Brunson contributing 23 points, and Immanuel Quickley adding 17 points. The team achieved a season-high shooting percentage of 54%, securing their third consecutive win.
Reflecting on the team's improved performance, Randle stated, "We're playing better basketball. It's still super-early in the season, so we've got to keep building to where we want to be at."
Despite a strong individual effort from LaMelo Ball, who led Charlotte with 32 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, the Hornets faced challenges. Brandon Miller exited the game during the second quarter due to an ankle injury, prompting concerns for the team's future games.
Hornets coach Steve Clifford expressed optimism about Miller's recovery, stating, "It'll be, I think, more day to day," while hoping for his availability in the upcoming game on Tuesday.
Struggling without their leading scorer Terry Rozier, who missed his fourth straight game due to a groin strain, the Hornets fell for the sixth time in their past eight games.
New York's defensive prowess shone as they clamped down on the Hornets after Miller's departure. The Knicks forced 12 turnovers, translating into 20 points, and limited the high-scoring Hornets to 46.8% shooting.
Taking advantage of Charlotte's vulnerable defense, the Knicks dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Hornets 24-11. This surge expanded their halftime lead of 10 points to an impressive 88-65 advantage, ultimately securing a lead of as much as 28 points in the fourth quarter.
Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau emphasized the team's unselfish plays and defensive efforts, stating, "We had a number of guys who made very unselfish plays, and then we got going defensively a little bit. And that got us some easy scoring opportunities, and we need those."
Heading into the next matchups, Charlotte is set to host Miami on Tuesday, while New York faces a road game against Boston on Monday.
