Kompany heaps praise on Muller after Bayern Munich dismantle Shakhtar

Bayern Munich's manager, Vincent Kompany, commended veteran striker Thomas Muller (35) for seizing a rare starting opportunity this season, scoring to put the team ahead against Shakhtar Donetsk after an early setback in their Champions League match on Tuesday.
"His goal exemplifies the quality he has consistently displayed throughout his career—being in the right place at the right time and executing the finish with great efficiency," Kompany remarked to the media following the 5-1 victory.
"Moreover, his energy, passion, and leadership are invaluable. It is crucial for us to maintain a balance between seasoned players and younger talents who are still developing."
Muller had only started once in Bayern's last five matches in the competition, but with Harry Kane sidelined due to injury, the 35-year-old rose to the occasion, positioning himself perfectly to score just before half-time and initiate the comeback.
Although Kompany has only granted Muller three starts in the Bundesliga this season, he was eager to highlight the player's significance to the team and his capacity to deliver in critical moments.
"It has always been evident that he plays a vital role for us, even if he does not feature every minute throughout the season. That is often the case," Kompany stated.
"His extensive experience allows him to recognize the importance of such moments.
"He has the ability to influence a match, but in the Champions League, it is unrealistic to expect complete dominance without the opposition creating opportunities.
"That moment was his opportunity, and he made a significant contribution to the team. Overall, I believe we were quite dominant, played well, and that was a pivotal moment."
