Kylian Mbappe wins award for France's player of the year amid PSG exit

Kylian Mbappe, aged 25, was awarded the title of France's player of the year during a prestigious ceremony held in Paris. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Mbappe has been recognized as the best player in Ligue 1 at the UNFP Trophies gala.

Throughout the season, he showcased his exceptional skills by scoring an impressive 44 goals across all competitions for Paris Saint-Germain.

Recently, Mbappe confirmed his departure from PSG at the end of the current campaign, as his contract comes to an end. Speculations suggest that Real Madrid will be his next destination.

Reflecting on this transition, Mbappe expressed, "It signifies the end of a chapter in my life, a page that is turning. Ligue 1 has always held a significant place in my career, being the only league I have known thus far. I have always strived to represent this league with honor."

Undoubtedly, Mbappe will miss Ligue 1 as it has played a vital role in shaping his life. However, he eagerly anticipates the exciting prospects that lie ahead.

Meanwhile, in his final home game for PSG, Mbappe demonstrated his prowess by scoring a goal, despite the team's unexpected 3-1 defeat against Toulouse.

Mbappe's latest goal brought his total to 27 for the season in Ligue 1, putting him eight goals ahead of Lille's Jonathan David, the next highest scorer.

The Ligue 1 season is not yet over, as PSG, led by Mbappe, still have two more games to play before the French Cup final against Lyon on May 25th.

Mbappe was chosen as the winner of an award voted on by his peers and presented by Marie-Jose Perec, the former French Olympic champion in the 200m and 400m events.

Other contenders for the award included Ousmane Dembele and Pierre Lees-Melou, as well as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Edon Zhegrova.

PSG's success was further recognized with Warren Zaire-Emery named young player of the season and Gianluigi Donnarumma awarded best goalkeeper.

Brest's Eric Roy was honored as coach of the year for guiding the club to European qualification for the first time in their history, securing at least a fifth-place finish with one game remaining.
