Kylian Mbappe wins European Golden Shoe in debut season at Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappe has clinched the 2024–25 European Golden Shoe, marking a major individual milestone in his first season at Real Madrid. The 26-year-old French forward netted 31 La Liga goals, edging out Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah for the prestigious scoring crown.

Despite missing out on team silverware, Mbappe’s league performances were unmatched across Europe’s top competitions, earning him 62 points under the UEFA Golden Shoe scoring system.

Final Golden Shoe Standings (2024–25)

1. Kylian Mbappe – Real Madrid: 31 goals (62 points)

2. Viktor Gyokeres – Sporting CP: 39 goals (58.5 points)

3. Mohamed Salah – Liverpool: 29 goals (58 points)

4. Robert Lewandowski – Barcelona: 27 goals (54 points)

5. Harry Kane – Bayern Munich: 26 goals (52 points)

6. Mateo Retegui – Atalanta: 25 goals (50 points)

The award only factors in league goals, with a coefficient system that gives extra weight to goals scored in UEFA's top five leagues. This helped Mbappe leapfrog Gyokeres, who netted more goals but played in a lower-ranked Portuguese league with a 1.5 multiplier compared to La Liga’s 2.0.

Mbappe’s breakout at the Bernabeu

Joining Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024, Mbappe endured a slow start adapting to life at the Santiago Bernabeu. Initially struggling to find synergy with fellow star Vinicius Jr., the Frenchman eventually found his rhythm, scoring 31 goals in 34 La Liga appearances.

Across all competitions, Mbappe tallied 42 goals in 55 matches, proving his world-class credentials once again in a season where Real Madrid narrowly missed out on major domestic and continental trophies.

"It’s a proud moment," Mbappe said. "To win this in my first season in Spain means a lot."

A New Name Among Golden Legends

This is Mbappe’s first European Golden Shoe, joining an elite club of winners that includes Harry Kane (2023–24), Robert Lewandowski, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi, who holds the all-time record with six wins.

As he continues to adjust and grow under the spotlight in Madrid, the French captain’s latest accolade suggests his best may still be ahead — especially with a new era under incoming manager Xabi Alonso on the horizon.
