LA Galaxy 1-1 Inter Miami: Messi grabs late equaliser to snatch draw against 10-man hosts

Lionel Messi netted a late equalizer in stoppage time to help Inter Miami secure a 1-1 draw against Los Angeles Galaxy in Major League Soccer on Sunday.

The Galaxy controlled the majority of the game and managed to take the lead in the 75th minute thanks to Dejan Joveljic. However, the home team finished the match with 10 players after midfielder Mark Delgado received a second yellow card in the 87th minute.

Jordi Alba then assisted Messi for a goal, showcasing great teamwork. Messi's performance was highlighted by this goal, as he struggled to make an impact throughout the game due to Miami's difficulties in keeping up with Galaxy's pace. Riqui Puig, a former Barcelona player for Galaxy, was a standout performer, especially in the first half.

Despite his dominance, Puig missed a penalty kick early in the game. Miami's older players, including Busquets and Suarez, seemed to struggle, limiting Messi's opportunities.

The match saw some intense moments, with Miami improving in the second half but failing to capitalize on their chances. Ultimately, Galaxy secured the win with Joveljic scoring the final goal.

Miami secured four points after their victory in the season opener against Real Salt Lake on Wednesday, winning 2-0.

Previously, John Herdman, the former coach of the Canada national team, had a positive start as the new head coach of Major League Soccer's Toronto FC with a well-deserved 0-0 draw against FC Cincinnati.

Toronto had finished last in the 29-team MLS last season, managing only four wins throughout the year. On the other hand, Cincinnati had won the Supporters Shield for the team with the best regular season record.

Despite the loss of their centre-forward Brandon Vazquez to Mexico's Monterrey, there was little to differentiate between Herdman's revamped Toronto team and Cincinnati.

Irish defender Kevin Long, who was signed from Birmingham City, had a solid debut in the centre of defense, while Honduran Deiby Flores, another debutant, put on a strong performance as the anchor of the midfield.

New York Red Bulls were denied a winning start under new German coach Sandro Schwarz as they played out a goalless draw against Nashville, hitting the woodwork twice.

Swedish midfielder Emil Forsberg, making his debut after being brought in from sister club RB Leipzig, came close to scoring with a long-range effort that hit the bar.

Just moments before, Frankie Amaya also struck the woodwork with a fine shot from outside the box. Goalkeeper Carlos Coronel was crucial in securing a point for Red Bulls after denying Tyler Boyd in the final moments.
