Late Nathan Ake goal helps Manchester City send Spurs crashing out of FA Cup

Nathan Ake's last-minute goal secured Manchester City's victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup Fourth Round, propelling them into the Fifth Round for the ninth consecutive season with a 1-0 win.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium had never witnessed a goal from City, and Oscar Bobb's attempt couldn't change that. Despite poking the ball into Guglielmo Vicario's net early on, Bobb was marginally offside when Phil Foden's effort was saved.

However, Pep Guardiola's team started the game with great intensity, which Spurs managed to overcome with blocked shots from Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic.

Although the hosts made their own attacking moves, they struggled to find the decisive pass at crucial moments.

As the half-hour mark passed, City's opportunities became less frequent. Nevertheless, there were occasional scares for Spurs due to City's pressing, particularly when Julian Alvarez forced Vicario to knock the ball out of play.

Referee Paul Tierney faced a lengthy delay due to a technical issue, but the intensity of the game remained high once play resumed. Bobb's shot was denied by a determined block from Pedro Porro.

Bobb continued to play a role in creating opportunities early in the second half, but Micky van de Ven and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg made brilliant blocks to prevent shots from Alvarez and Josko Gvardiol, respectively.

Ortega, the goalkeeper for Spurs, also made an impressive save to halt Johnson's attempt. Shortly after the hour mark, Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku were introduced, providing a boost for the hosts as they looked to regain control of the game.

There was further excitement for the home team when James Maddison made his return from injury, coming off the bench for his first minutes since November.

Silva and De Bruyne squandered chances to secure the winning goal, however, Nathan Ake managed to tap the ball over the line after Vicario's unconvincing punch, just like he did when defeating Arsenal in the same stage of the FA Cup last year.

This victory marked City's 12th consecutive away win in the FA Cup, as they strive to achieve what Arsenal did in the 2014/15 season by winning the competition in consecutive seasons.

On the other hand, Spurs have been unable to progress beyond this stage for the first time in five campaigns.
