Lazio 1-1 Atalanta: Brescianini's late equaliser sees La Dea return to the top of Serie A

Lazio's pursuit of consecutive home victories against Atalanta for the first time since 2017 was thwarted by an equalising goal in the 88th minute, resulting in a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Olimpico. This outcome allowed Gian Piero Gasperini's team to reclaim their position at the top of Serie A.
Atalanta has enjoyed an exceptional season, entering this match with a club-record streak of 11 consecutive league victories as part of an exhilarating title race.
Despite this, it was Lazio who began the match with greater intensity, as Mattéo Guendouzi struck the crossbar with a superb curled shot following a series of early opportunities for the home side.
Atalanta appeared unsettled in the opening moments, particularly in their central defense. A well-executed press from Lazio saw Nicolò Rovella cleverly lob the ball over the advancing defenders, allowing Dele-Bashiru to finish confidently from 12 yards.
It was surprising to witness an Atalanta team, which had netted nine goals in their previous two matches, being so effectively contained by Marco Baroni's squad, who entered halftime with their lead largely unchallenged.
However, Atalanta's impressive form this season is not to be underestimated, and they were determined to avoid defeat. They nearly equalised in the 60th minute, but Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel made a remarkable save to deny Ademola Lookman.
This did not significantly trouble Lazio, who had their own standout player in Rovella, demonstrating his skills at both ends of the pitch while orchestrating the game with an outstanding performance.
As Atalanta's frustration grew, Lazio had another opportunity to extend their lead, but Dele-Bashiru missed a golden chance, misfiring from just 10 yards out.
A significant oversight occurred, resulting in a costly outcome. In the final moments of the match, after Luca Pellegrini successfully cleared Lookman’s shot off the line, the Nigerian player assisted Marco Brescianini, who scored with only two minutes left in regulation time, securing Lazio's first league draw since August.
Lazio continues to hold a position in the top four, trailing Atalanta by six points, who have now surpassed Inter by a single point at the top of the standings, although they have played one additional match.
