Lazio Record Goal-Scorer Immobile Joins Besiktas on Two-Year Deal

The 34-year-old Italian international, known for his prolific goal-scoring abilities, was greeted by hundreds of enthusiastic 'Black Eagles' fans upon his arrival in Istanbul.
Besiktas announced the deal on Wednesday, revealing that Immobile will earn six million euros ($6.5 million) per season. This move comes after Immobile's remarkable career at Lazio, where he netted 207 goals in 340 matches, setting a club record. He also shares the record for the most goals scored in a single Serie A season, having scored 36 goals in the 2019-20 campaign.
Despite his impressive record, Immobile experienced a challenging 2023-24 season, scoring just seven league goals. This dip in form led to him losing his status as an undisputed starter and facing criticism from frustrated Lazio supporters.
Throughout his tenure at Lazio, Immobile secured three major trophies: the Italian Cup in 2019 and the Italian SuperCup twice. He also played a pivotal role in Italy's Euro 2020 triumph, contributing 17 goals in 57 appearances for the national team. However, he was not selected for Euro 2024.
Immobile now faces the task of revitalizing Besiktas' attack. The 16-time Super Lig champions last won the title in 2021 and finished a disappointing sixth last season, trailing over 40 points behind champions Galatasaray and second-placed Fenerbahce, their fierce Istanbul rivals.
The signing of Immobile signals Besiktas' ambition to reclaim their position at the top of Turkish football, with hopes that the experienced striker can lead their resurgence.
