Lazio's Maurizio Sarri resigns, Giovanni Martusciello named as new manager

Lazio announced on Wednesday that Maurizio Sarri, aged 65, has stepped down from his position as coach, with Giovanni Martusciello, aged 52, being appointed as his successor.

S.S. Lazio has officially announced that Maurizio Sarri has submitted his resignation as the head coach of the first team.

The club expressed gratitude for his accomplishments and efforts, extending best wishes for his future endeavors both professionally and personally.

Additionally, the club has appointed Giovanni Martusciello to take over the technical leadership role.

Reports from Italian media indicated that Sarri handed in his resignation to the club's management on Tuesday.

Lazio, following a 2-1 defeat at home against Udinese on Monday, currently holds the ninth position in the Serie A standings with 40 points from 28 matches.

The team has faced a challenging period, losing five of their last six games in all competitions.

Having succeeded Simone Inzaghi in June 2021, Sarri, a former manager of Chelsea and Napoli, assumed the coaching position at Lazio.

The club recently refuted claims in the media suggesting Sarri's potential dismissal following a 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, emphasizing that his contract was set to expire in 2025.
