LeBron and Bronny James Make History as First Father-Son Duo in NBA

The long-anticipated moment occurred during the Los Angeles Lakers’ preseason clash against the Phoenix Suns, where they took to the court together at the start of the second quarter.
LeBron, 39, impressed in the game, scoring 19 points in just over 16 minutes before sitting out the second half. Bronny, who turned 20 on the same day, found his debut more challenging, logging zero points in 13 minutes of play, attempting just one shot.
Reflecting on the historic moment, LeBron said, “It was cool for both of us, especially for our family. It’s definitely a moment I’ll never forget. As a father, it means everything. For someone who didn’t have a dad growing up, to have this influence on your son is one of the greatest things a father could hope for.”
The surreal experience resonated deeply with the four-time NBA champion. “We came out of a timeout and stood next to each other. I kind of looked at him, and it felt like we were in ‘The Matrix.’ It didn’t feel real, but it was great to have those moments,” LeBron shared.
The hype around the duo has been building since the Lakers selected Bronny with the 55th pick in this year's NBA Draft. New Lakers head coach J.J. Redick expressed his excitement after the game, saying, “It’s cool as a basketball fan. This moment speaks to LeBron’s longevity and competitive stamina, and to Bronny’s hard work to get to this point.”
Bronny entered the game with the Lakers holding a 34-25 lead in the second quarter. While his debut was quiet statistically, the significance of the occasion overshadowed the scoreboard.
LeBron, entering his 22nd NBA season, expressed renewed energy from playing alongside his son. “It’s a pure joy to come to work every day and push each other. It gives you a lot of life.”
Bronny, meanwhile, has acknowledged the criticism from some corners, with detractors suggesting his spot on the Lakers is only due to his father’s influence. “I’m taking all that criticism and using it as fuel,” Bronny said during the Lakers' media day.
While Bronny is expected to spend much of his rookie season in the G-League, the historic appearance with his father marks a significant milestone for the James family and NBA history.
The Lakers will tip off their regular season on October 22, with a home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
