LeBron James Leads Lakers' Comeback, Scores 32 Points Over Suns

On Friday night, LeBron James briefly resembled an aging veteran, seen limping and clutching his lower left leg after a first-quarter foul. However, he swiftly rebounded, contributing 32 points, as the Los Angeles Lakers halted a three-game losing streak by triumphing over the Phoenix Suns 122-119 in the NBA In-Season Tournament opener.
Reflecting on the victory, James expressed relief at overcoming early-season challenges: "It was good to just finally get over the hump at this early stage of the season." Despite being 38, James exhibited another vintage performance in his 21st season, shooting 11 of 17 from the field, including 3 of 4 on 3-pointers, and securing 11 rebounds and six assists in 36 minutes.
Facing the Suns, Kevin Durant led with 38 points, and Bradley Beal contributed 24. Devin Booker's absence due to a strained right calf was felt as the Lakers executed a 14-0 run, with Austin Reaves making a crucial layup, securing their first lead in the second half at 97-96.
Lakers coach Darvin Ham's strategic starting lineup change, featuring Cam Reddish and bringing Reaves off the bench, proved effective. Reddish, with 17 points, sank a crucial corner 3 assisted by James, solidifying the Lakers' lead at 118-113 with 1:10 remaining.
Despite an early scare when James limped in the first quarter, the Lakers showcased resilience, shooting 53% from 3-point range in the second half. Anthony Davis, returning from a one-game absence due to a hip injury, contributed 18 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists.
Reflecting on the game, Durant acknowledged the Lakers' momentum shift: "The momentum switched in their favor when they started knocking down threes." The Suns, nursing a single-digit lead in the third quarter, ultimately succumbed to the Lakers' prowess, ending in a satisfying victory for the purple and gold.
