LeBron James reportedly agrees new two-year deal with Los Angeles Lakers

LeBron James, aged 39, has agreed to a new two-year, $104 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers for the upcoming season. Reports from various sources in the US confirmed this news on Wednesday.

James, who will celebrate his 40th birthday in December, decided to opt out of his previous contract with the team last week. This move was seen as a strategic decision to create more financial flexibility for the Lakers to bring in new talent.

It was widely anticipated that the NBA superstar would continue his journey with the Lakers, especially after the team selected his eldest son, Bronny James, in the recent draft.

Expressing his long-standing wish to share the court with his son, James' new contract reportedly includes a no-trade clause. This ensures that he cannot be traded to another team without his approval.

As a four-time NBA champion and the highest scorer in league history, James is set to enter his 22nd season in 2024/25. While he led the Lakers to an NBA title in 2020, the team has faced challenges in reclaiming the championship since then.

Following their early exit from this year's playoffs, the Lakers made changes by appointing James' podcast co-host and TV analyst J.J. Redick as the new head coach, replacing Darvin Ham.
