LeBron's Lakers edge Pelicans to book playoff clash with Nuggets

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers managed to withstand a strong late comeback attempt by the New Orleans Pelicans, securing a 110-106 victory on Tuesday. This win also secured their spot in the first-round NBA playoff series against the defending champions, the Denver Nuggets.
In the play-in game victory that secured the seventh seed in the Western Conference, James, a four-time NBA champion, contributed 23 points, nine rebounds, nine assists, and three steals to lead the Lakers. This marks his 17th appearance in the playoffs in 21 seasons, showcasing his enduring prowess.
Now, he will have another opportunity to face off against Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets, who swept the Lakers in the Western Conference finals last season en route to claiming the title.
Meanwhile, Zion Williamson played a pivotal role in the Pelicans' comeback from an 18-point deficit in the third quarter.
Scoring an impressive 40 points, he ignited the team's rally with an alley-oop dunk to tie the game at 93-93. Later, he tied it again at 95-95 with a driving basket in the lane.
Unfortunately, he suffered an awkward landing and was forced to leave the game. Frustrated, he threw a towel in disgust as he made his way to the locker room for the remainder of the match.
Despite Williamson's absence, the Pelicans continued to apply pressure. They managed to tie the game twice more, but D'Angelo Russell's three-pointer with 51.3 seconds left extended the Lakers' lead to four points.
Los Angeles held on for the win with a crucial rebound and a pair of free throws from Anthony Davis. Russell played a significant role in the victory, contributing 21 points and sinking five of the Lakers' 14 three-pointers.
Davis also made a notable impact, scoring 20 points and securing 15 rebounds. This triumph followed the Lakers' previous win over the Pelicans on the final day of the regular season.
James stated that after playing the last game, it became clear that the opposing team would give their all - using every resource available to them. And indeed, they did just that. As a result, our victory was hard-fought and we secured our spot in the postseason.
The Lakers are scheduled to begin their best-of-seven series against the second-seeded Denver team on Saturday.
Although our ball club has faced significant challenges against them in the past, Lakers coach Darvin Ham believes in the potential for a fresh start. He expresses confidence in the team's current state and the enthusiasm within the group for this upcoming challenge.
The Pelicans still have an opportunity to secure a playoff spot. On Friday, they will compete against the winner of Tuesday's game between the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings for the eighth and final playoff position in the Western Conference.
Pels coach Willie Green mentioned that Williamson, who also contributed 11 rebounds and five assists, will undergo medical imaging tests on his leg. However, no further details regarding the severity of the injury are available at this time.
As a 23-year-old power forward, injuries have hindered his career thus far. He continues to strive for his first playoff appearance since being selected as the top pick in the 2019 draft.
