Lecce 0-4 Inter Milan: Nerazzurri thrash hosts to stay in Serie A title race
Inter Milan showcased a dominant performance with a 4-0 victory over Lecce on Sunday, maintaining pressure on Serie A leaders Napoli.
The win keeps Inter in second place with 50 points, just three points behind Napoli, who have a game in hand. Meanwhile, Lecce remain perilously close to the relegation zone, sitting fourth from bottom with 20 points.
After Napoli extended their lead atop the standings with a 2-1 win over Juventus on Saturday, Inter entered the match determined to narrow the gap. They wasted no time asserting control, starting the game with intensity.
In just the sixth minute, Marcus Thuram dazzled with a step-over to bypass a defender before setting up Davide Frattesi, who delivered a stunning volley to open the scoring for Inter.
Despite Inter having two quick goals disallowed for offside, their attacking prowess was evident. Manager Simone Inzaghi, frustrated by the decisions, received a yellow card for stepping out of his technical area while protesting.
Lautaro Martinez doubled Inter’s lead six minutes before halftime, unleashing a spectacular left-footed strike from outside the box that soared into the top corner.
Inter maintained their momentum after the break. Denzel Dumfries fought his way into a tight position near the goal and calmly slotted the ball into the far bottom corner, extending the lead to 3-0.
Just three minutes later, Lecce’s woes deepened when goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone brought down Frattesi while rushing to intercept a through ball. Mehdi Taremi converted the resulting penalty with ease, securing Inter’s fourth goal in the 61st minute.
With the win all but sealed, Inzaghi utilized his substitutes to rest key players. Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer ensured the clean sheet with a brilliant save, denying Ylber Ramadani’s long-range attempt.
