Leicester City 0-3 Wolves: Wolves cruise past Foxes to hand Vitor Pereira dream start

Wolverhampton Wanderers significantly enhanced their chances of remaining in the Premier League with a commanding 3-0 victory against relegation rivals Leicester City, marking their first away win in this fixture since May 2007.

This match heralded a new chapter for Wolves, who commenced their campaign under the management of Vítor Pereira. The new head coach faced the considerable challenge of guiding the team away from relegation.

The match nearly began disastrously for Wolves when Bilal El Khannouss set Jamie Vardy free, but Vardy's attempt to chip the ball over goalkeeper Jose Sa was thwarted as it struck the goalkeeper's chest and deflected away.

Midway through the first half, the visitors capitalized on this fortunate escape. A straightforward play led to the opening goal, as Nelson Semedo's hopeful ball forward bypassed the entire Leicester defense, allowing Goncalo Guedes to execute an acrobatic finish from within the penalty area.

In the spirit of the festive season, James Justin inadvertently presented Wolves with an early Christmas gift by allowing the ball to pass through to Rodrigo Gomes, whose mis-hit shot deceived goalkeeper Danny Ward and rolled into the net.

Leicester struggled to mount a comeback, although they came close when Vardy's shot was cleared off the line by Toti.

In a stroke of misfortune for Leicester, Wolves swiftly countered and extended their lead before halftime, with Matheus Cunha scoring off the post.

The atmosphere at half-time suggested that the match was effectively over, yet Leicester sought to re-enter the fray after the interval. In a manner reminiscent of the first half, Vardy found himself in a similar position, managing to evade Sa, but unfortunately, he could only direct his shot into the side netting.

Aside from that opportunity, Leicester struggled to create any significant chances to turn the game around, which may explain why Ruud van Nistelrooy opted not to bring on second-top scorer Facundo Buonanotte from the bench.

In reality, the 3-0 scoreline may have been somewhat generous to Leicester, as they were fortunate not to concede a fourth goal when the unmarked Joao Gomes failed to convert from close range, heading wide from six yards.

Ultimately, by that stage, the outcome of the match was already determined, rendering Gomes' miss inconsequential. Although Wolves will find themselves in the bottom three on Christmas Day, the two-point cushion separating them from Leicester in 17th place is a more favorable position than it would have been had they suffered a defeat.
