Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy lifts the lid on his Manchester United departure

Ruud van Nistelrooy expressed his disappointment at departing from Manchester United after a fruitful period as interim coach, yet he acknowledged the rationale behind new manager Ruben Amorim's decision to appoint his own assistants.
Having recently taken on the role of Leicester City manager, van Nistelrooy remained unbeaten in his four matches at United following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag, where he had previously served as an assistant to his fellow Dutchman.
"I was indeed disappointed, and it was painful to leave," he remarked to reporters on Monday.
"The only assistant position I would consider is at United due to the strong connection I have with the club and its supporters. However, I eventually came to terms with the situation because I understand the new manager's perspective.
"I had a constructive conversation with Ruben Amorim; it was a respectful exchange between two managers, which greatly facilitated my transition and allowed me to explore new opportunities that rejuvenated my enthusiasm."
Van Nistelrooy, who netted 150 goals during his illustrious five-year tenure at United before transferring to Real Madrid, believes he possesses the resilience necessary to assist Leicester, currently positioned 16th, in their battle against relegation.
"While many recognize my time at Real Madrid and Manchester United, my initial three seasons as a professional were spent in Dutch football with FC Den Bosch, so I am well aware of the challenges involved in fighting for survival," he added.
