Lewis Selects Ewing, Yin, and Knight to Complete US Solheim Cup Roster for Spain Matches

U.S. Solheim Cup captain Stacy Lewis finalized her team selection for the upcoming Solheim Cup matches in Spain, announcing her three captain's picks: Ally Ewing, Angel Yin, and Cheyenne Knight. These players secured their spots based on their ranking within the women's world ranking standings. Ewing and Yin, both having previous Solheim Cup experience, will join a team that includes five rookies.

The Solheim Cup matches are scheduled for September 22-24 at Finca Cortesin in Spain. Lewis expressed the strength of the European team, which has emerged victorious in the past two editions of the tournament.

While seven players automatically qualified based on their performance in LPGA tournaments over the last two years, the next two spots were determined by world rankings, and the remaining three were Lewis's captain's picks. The recently concluded Canadian Women's Open served as the final qualifying event.

Lewis acknowledged that the qualification process saw shifts in rankings, which affected who secured spots on the team but not the overall composition of the team.

Notably, the automatic selection process shifted Lexi Thompson from the seventh and final automatic spot, paving the way for Andrea Lee. Thompson then became the first available player from the world ranking, followed by Rose Zhang.

Thompson, the most seasoned American in the Solheim Cup, will participate in her sixth appearance. Despite recent challenges in her game, Lewis expressed confidence in Thompson's determination and work ethic to overcome these obstacles.

The U.S. team, which features a blend of experience and new talent, will aim to reclaim the Solheim Cup from Europe. The European team, led by captain Suzann Pettersen, has also been finalized, showcasing a mix of established players and picks.
