Liam Rosenior appointed Chelsea Head Coach on long-term deal until 2032

Chelsea Football Club have officially appointed Liam Rosenior as head coach of the men’s first team, handing the Englishman a long-term contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2032.

The 41-year-old replaces Enzo Maresca, who departed the club on January 1 following a turbulent spell marked by inconsistent results and reported internal tensions. Rosenior becomes the latest appointment under the club’s evolving sporting project led by BlueCo.

Chelsea confirm appointment after Strasbourg exit

Rosenior arrives in west London after an impressive spell with RC Strasbourg, where he guided the French side to European qualification for the first time in 19 years during his debut season in Ligue 1.

Chelsea confirmed that Rosenior completed the move after spending time in London earlier this week, with the club announcing his appointment on a five-and-a-half-year contract.

In a statement released by the club, Rosenior described the opportunity as the defining moment of his career.

I am extremely humbled and honoured to be appointed Head Coach of Chelsea Football Club,” he said. “This is a club with a unique spirit and a proud history of winning trophies. My job is to protect that identity and build a team that reflects these values every time we step onto the pitch.”

Before his move to France, Rosenior built his coaching reputation in England with Derby County and Hull City, earning praise for his progressive football philosophy and strong man-management.

He joined Strasbourg in July 2024 and led the club to a seventh-place finish in Ligue 1, securing qualification for European competition. Despite a recent run of five league matches without a win, Strasbourg sit seventh in the table and top their Conference League group.

Rosenior leaves the French club following a 1–1 draw against Nice, confirming his departure shortly after addressing the media in an emotional farewell press conference.

Emotional Goodbye to Strasbourg

Speaking in France before the move was officially confirmed, Rosenior acknowledged the difficulty of leaving Strasbourg but admitted the Chelsea opportunity was impossible to ignore.

“I will love this club for the rest of my life, but I cannot turn down Chelsea,” he said. “There are clubs you just cannot say no to. I would not have accepted this role if I didn’t believe I was ready.

Rosenior also confirmed that key members of his backroom staff, including Kalifa Cisse and Justin Walker, will join him at Chelsea.

Chelsea’s Recent Form and Immediate Challenge

Chelsea currently sit fifth in the Premier League, having rescued a late 1–1 draw against Manchester City on Sunday thanks to a stoppage-time equaliser from Enzo Fernández.

However, a run of just one win in seven matches contributed to Maresca’s exit, with under-21s coach Calum McFarlane overseeing the draw at the Etihad Stadium and set to take charge against Fulham in midweek.

Rosenior’s immediate task will be to stabilise performances, reconnect with supporters, and reignite Chelsea’s push for Champions League qualification.

Clear Vision and Message to Chelsea Fans

Rosenior emphasised unity, identity, and togetherness as core principles of his project at Stamford Bridge.

“I believe deeply in teamwork and unity. Those values will be the foundation of our success,” he said. “I want our fans to be proud of who we are and what we represent in every single game. They are the soul of this football club.”

Despite his limited experience at the very top level, Rosenior expressed full confidence in his readiness for the role. “I would not have accepted the Chelsea job if I wasn’t ready. There are clubs you just cannot turn down.”
