Lille 1-1 PSG: Hosts snatch last-grasp draw as league leaders stumble

Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain were held to a 1-1 draw at Lille on Sunday after substitute Jonathan David headed a last-minute equalizer after the visitors had taken the lead through a Kylian Mbappe penalty.

PSG were caught off guard when substitute Marco Asensio's sloppy pass was intercepted, and although Adam Ounas' deflected shot was well saved with his legs by Arnau Tenas, David followed up to nod the ball into the net on the rebound.

PSG took the lead in the 66th minute on Mbappe's penalty kick after Bafode Diakite tripped Lucas Hernandez.

PSG now have 37 points, five more than second-placed Nice, who lost 3-1 at Le Havre on Saturday. AS Monaco, who are third in the table, were defeated 1-0 at home by Olympique Lyonnais on Friday. Lille's victory puts them in fourth place with 28 points.

Lille started strongly in front of an enthusiastic home crowd, creating chances early on, but as the game progressed, the visitors gained more control.

PSG's first clear chance came when Ousmane Dembele was played through in the box, but his attempt from a tight angle narrowly missed the target.

Vitinha came close for the visitors in the minutes before the break, but his close-range effort was tipped over for a corner by Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.

PSG applied pressure early in the second half and took the lead when Mbappe converted a penalty kick into the top corner. But there was a sting in the visitors' tail as David popped up at the death to level the scores.

PSG host Metz on Wednesday, while Lille visit Strasbourg before the league goes on Christmas break.
