Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal: Points shared at Anfield as Gunners stay top

Liverpool hosted Arsenal in a highly anticipated match with the opportunity to secure the top spot in the league standings at Christmas. Despite Arsenal recently overtaking Liverpool in the title race, the Gunners had struggled to secure a victory in their previous 10 league visits to Anfield.
However, Arsenal started the game with great intensity and quickly took the lead. Martin Odegaard's precise free-kick found Gabriel Magalhaes, who headed the ball into the net, narrowly avoiding an offside call after a VAR check.
Liverpool, known for their resilience after conceding goals, managed to equalize before the half-hour mark. Mohamed Salah initially missed a chance, but he made amends by capitalizing on Trent Alexander-Arnold's long pass, effortlessly evading Oleksandr Zinchenko and scoring a powerful shot near the post.
The first half provided plenty of entertainment, with Bukayo Saka failing to convert a scoring opportunity and Gabriel Martinelli missing the target.
The second half was an intense battle, with Liverpool looking more likely to score. Salah continued to trouble Zinchenko with his direct runs, and the atmosphere at Anfield was electric. Substitute Joe Gomez came close to scoring his first senior goal, but his curling effort narrowly missed the target.
Liverpool had several chances to secure a victory, hitting the post through Harvey Elliot's deflected shot and squandering a golden opportunity on the counter-attack.
In the end, the thrilling contest ended in a draw, marking the 19th time in 23 Premier League matches between the two teams at Anfield where both sides scored.
In spite of their failure to regain the top spot, the Reds continue to enhance their remarkable unbeaten home record, extending it to 50 matches without a loss out of their last 51 (W38, D12).
On the other hand, Mikel Arteta will celebrate Christmas as the league leaders once more, with the opportunity to secure their 25th league victory of the year for the second consecutive time still within reach - a historic milestone that Arsenal has never accomplished before.
