Liverpool 2-0 Bologna: Salah shines as Liverpool beat Bologna in Champions League Clash

This marks Liverpool's second consecutive triumph in the group stage and extends their impressive record to eight wins in nine matches under manager Arne Slot.

After defeating seven-time champions AC Milan in their opening match, Liverpool faced Bologna, who were making their Champions League debut. The home side applied early pressure, but it was Bologna who came close to scoring first. Thijs Dallinga broke through on goal and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Alisson, only to see his effort ruled out for offside, denying him a chance for his third career goal against the Reds.

Seizing the momentum from this scare, Liverpool responded swiftly. Mohamed Salah provided a pinpoint cross to the back post, where Alexis Mac Allister was waiting to finish with ease, giving the hosts a crucial lead.

The Reds looked to extend their advantage, with Darwin Nunez having a goal disallowed for offside shortly after. Bologna finished the first half strongly, creating multiple opportunities. Riccardo Orsolini nearly equalized with a header that was blocked by a teammate, and Dan Ndoye hit the woodwork with a close-range effort, but Liverpool held on to their lead at halftime.

Bologna came out with renewed energy in the second half, testing Alisson again with a free-kick from Orsolini. However, Liverpool's defense remained resilient, and captain Remo Freuler nearly turned the tide by heading a Liverpool corner just wide of his own goal.

Concerned about his team's dip in intensity, Slot made tactical changes, introducing Cody Gakpo and Kostas Tsimikas. These substitutions quickly shifted the momentum back to the Merseysiders. Salah then sealed the victory with a brilliant second goal, cutting in from the right and curling a shot into the far corner of the net.

This goal deflated Bologna's hopes of a comeback, allowing Liverpool to comfortably manage the final minutes of the match and secure their second victory in the league phase.

Bologna remains without a win in their opening matches and will next face Aston Villa as they look to find their footing in the tournament.
